It has something for everyone, from high quality necessities to stand-out style throughout womenswear, menswear, and kidswear, as well as their cosmetics, homeware, and accessories.
They are continually innovating to provide design-led fashion and everyday items at wallet-friendly costs, fueled by creativity and a real enthusiasm for what they do.
They’ve preserved their strong Irish origins, but you can now find Primark all across the UK, throughout continental Europe, in Central and Eastern Europe, and just getting started in the US.
With over 400 shops in 14 countries spanning Europe and the United States, they see growth prospects in all of our markets and intend to reach 530 locations by the end of 2026.
Our shops are at the heart of who they are as a company.
To build authentic retail destinations, they are constantly thinking one step ahead, integrating innovative and interesting in-store services such as beauty and food and drink outlets. Digital is becoming increasingly crucial in telling our narrative and engaging our consumers.
They have over 24 million followers participating with our material on social media, and they’re launching a fresh new consumer website throughout our markets, presenting a far broader choice of what they sell and giving customers with availability by shop.
It has always prioritised affordability. Their current goal is to make more sustainable clothes more accessible to everyone.
They’re committed to extending the life of our clothing, safeguarding the environment, and improving the lives of the people who manufacture it.
That’s why, with their Primark Cares plan, they’ve set out to transform the way our garments are created, with a broad set of goals they want to fulfil by 2030.
This includes ensuring that our garments are created from recycled or more sustainably sourced materials, halving carbon emissions throughout our whole value chain, and striving for a livable wage for supply chain employees.
Already, more than a quarter of all of our items are more environmentally friendly, which shoppers can locate in store by looking for the blue heart of the Primark Cares badge.
Why is Primark called Primark?
Arthur Ryan, the original creator, founded the first Penneys store in Dublin.
Primark has around 370 outlets in the United Kingdom and Europe.
Only four years later, the company intended to open its first store in the United Kingdom, in Derby. However, because the name Penneys was already owned in that region by the American store J. C. Penney, he had to come up with a new name.
So, how did they come up with the name Primark? Arthur Ryan is supposed to enjoy the Italian language, and the phrase ‘Prima’ means ‘first.’
He was also eager for the company to establish a “mark,” and thus Primark was formed.
In Ireland, the store is still known as Penneys.
When did Primark first open?
Rewinding five decades, Primark originally welcomed budget-conscious consumers in 1969.
After four years, the first store opened in the United Kingdom, and it wasn’t long before they began growing in Europe as well, launching their first foreign store in Madrid, Spain, in 2006.
Primark now has 403 locations throughout 14 countries, including the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany, Belgium, Austria, France, the United States, and Italy.
Plans for outlets in Romania and Slavakia have also been announced.
Why Is Primark So Successful? The Power Of Alignment
Primark released their first-quarter 2019 earnings on January 17, 2019.
The firm is performing well, as seen by these figures.
Their sales climbed by 4% over the previous year, as did their market share and operational profit margins. These are not single-quarter results.
Of course, like with other shops, last year’s unseasonably warm weather and fluctuating currency rates hampered Primark’s sales.
However, over the previous ten years, Primark has grown steadily in terms of income, store count, and retail selling area.
Such achievements are extraordinary in an industry where many retailers are struggling and closing their physical locations, and where customers appear to be shifting away from high street shopping and toward online purchasing.
Why is this the case? Why does Primark defy typical trends and continue to expand as a physical-only store?
Of course, there are always several answers to such a question.
Depending on our point of view, they can refer to leadership, consumer trends, clever purchasing, luck, and so on.
And this will most likely provide us with snippets of the solution.
When we look at their approach over the years and how effectively they insist on this goal and organise their firm around it, we get a more full and clear response.
What makes them so successful is because they understand their DNA and adhere to it in all they do.
As a result, the organisation is extremely well aligned both internally and externally around how they provide value for their consumers. It has affordable pricing. As a result, they plainly compete on pricing. But it’s not simply the price. It is the price paired with the overwhelming amount of fashion goods available in their stores.
Bottom line, they offer the sense of being a kid in a candy store, the Oh-My-God-I-can-buy-all-of-this-and-still-have-money-left experience. That is their value proposition, and it is the reason for their success.
Primark is able to provide such a convincing experience because everything they do is centred on this value proposition.
It is externally aligned with the market since this value offer meets the wants and desires of a certain consumer segment and separates them from their competition.
And it is internally well-aligned because all of Primark’s processes – buying, stock management, store design, and so on – are all coordinated to produce this kid-in-a-candy-shop feeling.
When we look at Primark in this light, it seems logical that they do not also have an online store. If it was solely for selling low-cost apparel, online would have been a viable option – but distribution and returns would make it difficult to make such a firm successful.
Furthermore, recreating the same kid-in-a-candy-store sensation online is far more challenging. We can’t just take anything, taste it, and decide whether to buy or leave it. And how much fun is it to gaze at a screen with a friend and order your stuff from there?
