The Mobile App
The Indeed mobile app is comparable to the web browser version, however the appearance may alter based on the device you use.
Some gadgets, for example, may include a menu button in the top-right corner, whilst others may not.
Creating your Indeed Resume
Even if you already have a great resume, you should think about developing an Indeed resume as well.
Indeed resumes are prepared automatically, are simple to alter, and allow potential employers to find you rather than the other way around. Furthermore, while applying for a job, you will always have the choice of submitting your Indeed resume or any other CV you prefer.
Getting started with your Indeed Resume
To begin working on your Indeed resume, click the profile symbol in the upper right corner and select Resume.
Depending on where you are in the sign-up process, you may be guided through the steps or directed to the resume page shown below. In any case, you can always edit your resume from this page.
The screen will look different if you use the Indeed mobile app instead of a computer, but you should still have all of the same options.
Information about you
The first area is dedicated to personal information.
This is where you may enter your contact information and tell us a little bit about yourself.
To open the editor, click the pencil symbol.
The Headline and Summary parts are optional, however they might be useful for rapidly introducing yourself to prospective employers. Both fields should be tailored to the position you’re looking for, so you may want to edit them each time you apply.
Consider the Headline to be a way to demonstrate your qualifications in as little space as possible.
The Summary can be a bulleted list or a brief paragraph highlighting further relevant skills and experiences.
Fill complete the rest of the form as thoroughly as you can. Make sure to read each question attentively, answer honestly, and double-check your answers for any errors.
If you have a phone number, you should include it.
When you’ve finished, click Save.
Work Experience
The next section is about work experience.
Click the plus sign (+) symbol to add a new job.
It is not required that you complete out every field, but it is excellent practice.
Don’t pass up the opportunity to market yourself to potential employers in the Description field!
Concentrate on your accomplishments and be detailed.
Make use of lists to help hiring managers read your resume more easily.
Proofread your work at all times.
Employers have a lot of resumes to look over, so even little errors can cause them to say no!
When you’re done adding jobs, click Save.
To make changes to an existing job, click the pencil icon next to it.
To add another job, click the plus sign symbol.
You don’t have to include every job you’ve ever had, but Indeed recommends including at least two if you can.
Education
The next part inquires about your educational background.
To add a new entry, click the plus sign button.
Select the academic level you have finished from the first drop-down option.
You can choose Custom to add GED, apprenticeship, or other educational experience.
Take your time filling out the remaining fields, as a more full resume will garner more attention.
When you’ve finished, click Save.
Skills
Indeed may suggest some abilities to add based on your resume.
If it does, you can add it by clicking a talent.
It’s critical to be truthful and only include abilities that you actually have.
After you’ve added a skill, click the pencil symbol next to it to add your experience level.
Click the + sign button to add more skills.
Enter the skill’s name and your level of experience.
When you’ve finished, click Save.
Additional Fields
The sections above cover the meat of your Indeed resume, but you can add more if it’s relevant to the job you’re looking for.
- Certificates and licenses: This field may or may not be significant depending on the type of job you are looking for.
Some jobs, for example, may require you to hold a driver’s license.
- Additional Information: This is an excellent location to include information that does not fit elsewhere, such as volunteer experience.
- Assessments: You can take examinations to demonstrate your ability in specific areas.
- Add extra sections: Indeed allows you to include more areas on your resume, such as links, military service, and so on.
Additional options and features
Resume Privacy Settings
The Resume Privacy Settings allow you to specify whether you want employers to be able to search your resume.
Employers will be unable to discover you if you make your resume private, but you will still be able to submit it with your applications.
Obtaining your Resume
Downloading your resume allows you to proofread it more easily and share your Indeed resume with employers who do not utilize the Indeed platform.
Click Download resume to save your resume.
Then, select a template that you like.
Then, click the Download resume button.
The About me tab
By clicking the About me option near the top of the screen, you may add more information about yourself.
You can enter information about yourself and the type of work you want from this tab.
According to Indeed, filling out this information assists them in matching you with career prospects.
For example, saying that you are Ready to Work informs employers that you are available to begin immediately.
Making a resume is difficult, so take your time and don’t be hesitant to get assistance from friends or specialists.
Searching and applying for jobs
This course will teach you how to use Indeed’s job search tools, create email alerts, save opportunities that interest you, and apply for positions through the Indeed platform.
Searching for jobs
Indeed allows you to search for jobs both on your computer and on your mobile device.
In any case, the experience is slightly tailored to each user and device, and some services are only available if you have an Indeed account.
This means that what you see in this lesson may not precisely match what you see on your screen, but the overall process should be the same.
There are two search boxes on the Indeed homepage.
Enter the job you’re searching for in the first box and the location you’re looking for in the second box.
Then click Find jobs. The search will yield a list of job openings.
If you don’t find anything that piques your curiosity, try trying with alternative search phrases.
Try looking for jobs by job title, skill, keyword, or company.
Filters are another technique to limit down the search results.
You can narrow down your search by experience level, job type, and area.
You can also expand your search by selecting Advanced Job Search.
Job listings are sorted by relevancy by default, but you can change this if you like.
Sorting by date allows you to see fresh job ads more easily.
Email Alerts
Email alerts are another another way to keep up with fresh job ads.
Begin by looking for the email alert box on the right or bottom of the search results page. If you have a full job description open, you may need to close it to access the email alert box.
Check that you have provided the proper email address, then click Activate.
You will now receive an email whenever a new job matching all of the search criteria you are now looking for is listed.
Navigate to the profile menu and select Email preferences to view, amend, or delete your job alerts.
Reading job postings
Each job posting is unique, however you will see the job title and the firm name at a minimum.
If you can apply for the position directly through Indeed, it will be stated.
If you’re interested in a job posting, click to learn more.
A second window appears with additional information about the job and the qualifications they seek in an applicant.
Some job postings offer extra specifics such as income and benefits, but not all.
Read the job advert carefully to determine if this position is a suitable fit for you.
Saving Jobs
If you are interested in a position but are not quite ready to apply, click the heart icon to save it.
Saving jobs is a useful function, but don’t put off applying for too long because many jobs fill rapidly or have application deadlines.
To see your saved jobs, go to the profile menu and select My jobs.
Applying to Jobs
When you’re ready to apply for a position, click the apply button.
Some job advertisements will send you to another website to complete a special application, while others will allow you to apply directly through Indeed.
Even if you apply through Indeed, the process will be slightly different for each position, but there will be some similarities.
Every application, for example, requests a resume. If you already have an Indeed resume, you can use it to apply or submit a new one.
Every application will also allow you to provide a cover letter.
Don’t pass on this opportunity, as cover letters are an excellent method to demonstrate to employers that you are a serious candidate.
You can either type a cover letter into the application or attach one.
Tip: Make your cover letter unique for each application you submit.
Some Indeed applications may require you to complete a skills assessment to demonstrate your expertise.
Other applications will ask you to complete a brief questionnaire about your experience. Always respond honestly and to the best of your abilities to whatever is required of you.
After you have completed all of the processes, you will have one last chance to examine your application.
When you’re ready, scroll to the bottom of the page and click Apply.
Job searching is difficult, but maybe this lesson makes the process a little less painful.
