Handshake was founded with the goal of ensuring that all college students have equitable access to fulfilling professions.
Since our inception in Michigan in 2013, our network of university and employer partners has grown significantly, as has the impact on students. It has quickly become the premier early career community in the United States.
Its founders Garrett Lord, Ben Christensen, and Scott Ringwelski saw the apparent gap in professional options for students throughout the country while studying at Michigan Tech University.
They established the foundations of Handshake with the belief that software had the capacity to bridge this opportunity gap.
The buddies took their concept on a cross-country road trip in order to better understand the difficulties students have while searching for employment and to urge college career centres to collaborate with them.

Getting Started with Handshake
Are you ready to start using it? Great! Here are five actions you can do to get started with Handshake!
1. Login to Handshake.
If your institution has partnered with it, you should have received a link in the email from your Career Services Center.
If you did not get an invitation email from your school, go to the Handshake login page and choose your school name from the dropdown menu to continue.
Only the first 25 schools are presented, and they are arranged alphabetically. If your school isn’t listed in the menu, use the search box and enter in your school’s name to find it.
Unable to locate your school? If your school does not appear in the list when you search by name, it is conceivable that they are in the process of implementing Handshake and are now hidden. Contact your Career Services Center to confirm their Hand-shake status!
After you’ve chosen your school, sign in by using the login option offered by your school or by entering your.edu email address.
- Log in to Handshake with the same User ID and password you use to access your school’s website (to check your account or access the library for example).
If you’re having trouble logging in with your school User ID and password, or if you’re an alum, try resetting your password on Handshake (using your school email address as your User ID). More information may be found at Log In as an Alum: Configure your Handshake Password.
If you try to sign in and there is no account on file for you, you will be requested to create one.
To proceed with account creation, select I’m a Student or Alumni.
Refer to The Student About-boarding Experience for more information on creating an account in Handshake.
After creating a new account, you must connect with a school to have access to additional Hand-shake services such as job ads and messaging.
This procedure is either automated depending on your email domain or manual by your Career Services centre.
You can contact your school’s Career Services department as usual for help with approvals, or submit a ticket to our Support Team to obtain further information.
If you want to learn more about student accounts, visit Hand-shake’s An Overview of Student and Alumni Accounts.
2. Once you’ve logged in to Handshake, upload your résumé.
You should probably have a public resume on Handshake that companies and your school’s Career Services department may see.
Refer to How to Upload a New Document for further information on how to upload a document.

3. Complete your profile.
Once you’ve submitted your resume, you may use it to populate your profile – for more details, see Build Profile from Resume.
If you select the Employers or Community privacy level, bear in mind that the more information you include in your profile, the simpler it will be for employers to locate you and make better informed choices about whether or not you could be a good fit for their job openings!
Refer to How to Drive Profile Completion for additional information on filling up your profile.
If your profile already has information, it signifies that your institution has partnered with It and has pre-loaded your information, which is often based on data from the school registrar.
Check that all pre-loaded information is valid, notably your major and GPA (if applicable); if you notice any inaccuracies, contact your school’s Career Services Center to repair them, since Handshake cannot update any of your profile data.
4. Explore Handshake!
Use your home page, the top navigation bar, and filters to find businesses, events, and jobs that you want to learn more about or apply for.

An Introduction to the SSL Handshake
Before delving into what causes a TLS or SSL handshake failure, it’s important to understand what the TLS/SSL hand-shake is.
Security protocols such as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and Transport Layer Security (TLS) are used to authenticate data transfers between servers and external systems such as browsers.
SSL certificates are required to secure your website using HTTPS.
We won’t go into detail regarding the distinction between TLS and SSL because it is insignificant.
Because the phrases are frequently used interchangeably, we’ll use “SSL” to refer to both.
With that out of the way, the first step in establishing an HTTPS connection is an SSL handshake.
The user’s browser and the website’s server must go through a series of tests (the handshake) to authenticate and establish the connection.
Kinsta spoiled me so badly that I now expect the same level of care from every supplier.
We want to be on the same level with our SaaS tool support.
Let us explain: the client (usually the browser) submits a request to the server for a secure connection.
After sending the request, the server transmits a public key to your computer and compares it to a list of certificates.
The machine then produces and encrypts a key using the server’s public key.
To cut a long tale short, a secure connection cannot be established without the SSL handshake.
This can be a serious security concern.
Furthermore, there are several moving pieces in the process.
That implies there are several possibilities for things to go wrong, resulting in a handshake failure or even the “your connection is not private” message, forcing visitors to depart.
TLS Handshake
The TLS handshake allows the SSL or TLS client and server to establish the secret keys that will be used to interact.
This section summarises the processes required for the SSL or TLS client and server to communicate with one another.
The following stages are involved in the TLS Handshake Protocol: The client sends the server a “Client greeting” message, along with the client’s random value and available cypher suites. The server answers by giving the client a “Server hello” message along with the server’s random value.
