GTA 6 Rockstar Games has officially verified the release of the game.

Although information are scant and there is no indication of a debut date as of yet, it’s heartening to know that it’s occurring.

If you’re looking forward to GTA 6, we’ve got good news: it’s presently in production and, according to producer Rockstar Games, work on it is “well started.”

After years of rumours and conjecture, we now have proof that a sixth Grand Theft Auto game will be released.

But now that we know GTA 6 is a genuine game that we’ll be able to play one day, we have even more questions.

The most important is when we can play it. Unfortunately, we do not know. It appears that the release is still a few of years away, which means we won’t see it until at least 2024.

There aren’t many definite information regarding GTA 6 available just yet, with Rockstar only confirming its existence and promising to “establish creative milestones for the franchise.”

Unsurprisingly, GTA 6 did not appear at Gamescom Opening Night Live.

When it comes to reveals and announcements, Rockstar prefers to go its own way, especially with titles as huge as GTA 6.

Nonetheless, plenty other fascinating games will be exhibited and launched during Gamescom 2022.

In terms of Grand Theft Auto 6, we still have enough of rumours and rumours to keep us going till the next official reveal.

For example, according to a recent fascinating Bloomberg rumour, the game might include the series’ first playable female protagonist and centre around a pair of characters inspired by the American crime duo Bonnie and Clyde.

When it comes to the ‘where’ of Grand Theft Auto 6, it appears that it will be set in Vice City, with post-launch DLC extending into additional areas and towns.

It’s probable that we’ll have to wait a bit longer before hearing official news about G Grand Theft Auto 6 TA 6 or seeing it in action.

Meanwhile, GTA 5 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S has offered us a glimpse of how crisp the game may appear on the newest generation of platforms.

GTA 6 Release Date be: When is GTA 6 Coming Out

Long story short, if Rockstar had announced GTA 6 the day after Red Dead Redemption 2 was released (October 26, 2018 – mark your calendar), we’d be waiting roughly 22 months – so August 2020 – based on previous delays between console GTA announcements and delivery.

Rockstar, of course, did not do so. It didn’t do anything until Rockstar stated it was working on the game in February 2022.

As a result, predicting a release date is problematic. However, a fresh leak says that it will not be available until the end of 2024.

We’ve estimated certain dates, but this chart illustrates the period between the ‘Announcement’ and ‘Release’ of GTA games, as well as the time between important entries.

According to the latest rumours, GTA 6 will be released in 2025. The game is situated in a modern-day version of Vice City, which will expand and evolve over time.

This contradicts previous claims that GTA 6 will be set in Miami and released in October 2023.

That’s from a shady web source, but other facts from that leak include a single, male protagonist, the game being set in the 1970s, and a chaptered tale similar to Red Dead Redemption 2.

Combine that with Rockstar teasing fans on Twitter with the official Rockstar Support account encouraging us to “stay tuned” for GTA 6 updates, and things are just becoming more interesting.

GTA 6 Confirmed

Rockstar Games has officially announced that Grand Theft Auto 6 will be released.

Although there are few details and no indication of a debut date, it’s encouraging to know that it’s occurring.

However, we do know that Rockstar, as usual, has lofty goals for its upcoming game.

GTA 6 Trailer: When Can I Watch One?

Unfortunately, Rockstar Games did not release a trailer for GTA 6, implying that the developer is approaching the reveal of Grand Theft Auto 6 differently than it has in the past.

Rockstar Games teased an announcement for both GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 a few days before releasing the first teaser for either game.

But this time, Rockstar didn’t tease an announcement at all, nor did it announce the game with a trailer; instead, the announcement was simply included as part of a community post, making it difficult to predict whether a trailer will indeed be released soon.

In any case, if a Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer is released, you’ll know about it because the internet will go crazy – and we’ll let you know, of course.

GTA 6 Map: Where and When Will GTA 6 be Set?

Rockstar Games has not stated where Grand Theft Auto 6 will lead us, but there are several speculations circulating that imply a range of game scenarios.

Although every internet titbit and juicy rumour piece appears enticing, a few hold more water than others.

Grand Theft Auto 6 appears to be set in Vice City, Rockstar’s fictitious depiction of Miami, or at least a fictional version of Miami.

According to the aforementioned Bloomberg article, a person “close to the subject” believes Vice City will feature in GTA 6, albeit Rockstar’s earlier intentions appear to have been more extensive.

According to the article, during the start of production, GTA 6 had vast landscapes patterned after both North and South America.

However, the scope appears to have been reduced to focus on Vice City and its surroundings, albeit “the game’s globe remains huge, with more interior areas than previous Grand Theft Auto games.”

The map, however, will not remain static, according to the article.

Rockstar intends to update GTA 6 with more cities and interior places after its release, with these upgrades expected to be far larger than those received by GTA 5.

The goal is to offer devs greater freedom to work on the game’s huge geography while reducing burdensome overtime during production.

It also implies that after the game is out, you’ll have additional regions to explore.

According to Bloomberg, Rockstar intends to introduce new missions and cities to the game “on a regular basis,” providing us with fresh locales to explore while perhaps reducing studio crunch.

Those rumours are consistent with past disclosures.

One of the most popular Grand Theft Auto 6 setting speculations in recent years comes from YouTube channel The Know.

It claimed GTA 6 is being created under the secret name Project Americas because players would be able to travel between the US and South America in the game.

Similarly, a now-deleted Reddit thread appeared to confirm some of The Know report’s findings.

According to the Reddit person responsible for the leak, the game has been in development since 2015, but it was put on hold while Red Dead Redemption 2 remained the priority.

According to the report, GTA 6 might be massive, spanning numerous decades (the 1970s through the 1980s) and places (one of which is Vice City, another Liberty City and another is a fictional city based on Rio de Janeiro).

While no expected release date is mentioned, the ad states that the game will be available solely for the next generation (a claim that several reports have corroborated).

Following these allegations, a series of ‘leaked’ photos have appeared online since early 2020, apparently revealing areas of the larger GTA 6 map – and correlating with the Project Americas myth.

So far, four map leaks have appeared, each showing a different area of the overall map.

Fans have speculated on what each portion of the map may depict, with supposed locales including Rio de Janeiro, the Everglades, and Colombia.

However, according to a recent Bloomberg report, those rumours were only half true.

While the game was initially supposed to cover both the North and South American continents, its scope appears to have been reduced to centre on Vice City, with “more interior locales than previous Grand Theft Auto games.”

Similarly, leaker Tom Henderson claims that while Vice City will be included in GTA 6, the game’s area would be smaller than earlier speculations predicted.

Furthermore, Henderson states that GTA 6 will be set in the present day rather than the 1980s or 1990s.

This appears to be to allow the basic game to “blend” with GTA Online, with devs aiming for “as much leeway as possible to release as many DLCs as feasible.”

Henderson revealed information on more than simply GTA 6. According to the leaker, GTA Online, which will be launched with GTA 6, will have an evolving map that will vary each time a new GTA 6 DLC is published.

Henderson likened this map to Fortnite’s and also said that when GTA 6 is released, new locations and map expansions would be added to the “basic” GTA Online map.

Henderson did caution that he is “not renowned for GTA 6 leaks” and that viewers should take these speculations with a grain of salt, since his sources may be “less dependable” than those of his Call of Duty and Battlefield leaks.

For our money, we believe a return to Vice City in some manner is in the works, which would fit with the previously reported reports.

Aside from that, we have yet to receive an official confirmation of GTA 6’s setting from Rockstar.

GTA 6 Story & Characters: What to Expect

Nothing regarding the plot or characters in GTA 6 has been publicly released.

We did, however, encounter some plausible claims regarding what may be in the game.

One of the most frequent theories is that GTA 6 will include a female protagonist for the first time in the series.

This was initially stated by Tom Henderson in the game’s aforementioned trailer.

According to Jason Schreier’s viral Rockstar claim, GTA 6 will have two protagonists, one of whom will be female.

He didn’t say much about the characters, other that the woman would be Latina and the tale will be inspired by Bonnie and Clyde.

A more recent leak focused on individuals other than the main protagonists that might debut in GTA 6.

A leaker said in a Reddit post that has since been deleted that two recognisable figures from prior games, Niko Bellic from GTA 4 and Michael De Santa from GTA 5, may return in GTA 6.

Niko Bellic was never apprehended for his crimes. ‘The Serb’ stories are still spoken in Liberty City on occasion, there are several news pieces about him, and there is even a sentimental documentary about him.

GTA 4’s actions produce massive power swings in the criminal underworld, and the weakening of nearly every group over the course of the game allows the Von Crastenburg family to rise so swiftly.

[Michael] may very well be making a film in Vice City. We’ll have to see what happens.

Ned Luke, Michael’s voice actor, appears to be working with Rockstar Games again.

It has been speculated that this may be for GTA Online DLC, however prior GTA titles have been known to bring back characters from earlier games, albeit in minor roles.

This might also be true for GTA 6.

GTA 6 News and Rumors: What Do We Know So Far?

The good news is that Rockstar is working on a new Grand Theft Auto game.

Rockstar announced in a community update on February 4 that “active development on the next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto franchise is well underway.”

Whatever it is, we can be certain it will be “unique.”

Rockstar acknowledged that additional resources are being moved to “the next chapter in the Grand Theft Auto franchise” as part of the studio’s statement that it was shutting down support for Red Dead Online, and that it wants to guarantee the new game “exceed[s] players’ expectations.”

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, thinks that improved development tools and larger teams might close these gaps in an interview with

It might also imply that “games may be a little shorter” while still receiving extensive post-launch maintenance.

According to Kotaku, “one plan that management has laid out for the next game, a new entry in the Grand Theft Auto series, is to start out with a moderately sized release (which, by Rockstar’s standards, would still be a large game) that is then expanded with regular updates over time, which may help mitigate stress and crunch.”

Employees at Rockstar are speaking out about the good adjustments the firm is making after being scrutinised following the Red Dead Redemption 2 deadline.

Although there is no schedule for GTA 6, it is possible that the next GTA may be slightly smaller when it is released.

This notion also fits with a few other rumours discussed in Henderson’s July 2021 video, in which he explores the theory that GTA 6 is set in modern-day Vice City, rather than the 1980s, as others speculated.

This is presumably due to the fact that a modern environment is more readily built upon in GTA Online – and on that point, the new online mode may take place on a ‘evolving map’ that evolves with each release.

GTA 6 Could Reward You in Cryptocurrency Instead of Cash

Tom Henderson (opens in new tab), a well-known Call of Duty and Battlefield leaker, stated on Twitter that he has heard that some GTA 6 missions may reward players with in-game bitcoin payments rather than cash.

According to Henderson, bitcoin would not replace cash as an in-game money, but rather would coexist with it.

Henderson believes that the stock market will return in GTA 6, with the inclusion of a cryptocurrency broker.

These bitcoin payments appear to be awarded for every assignment, but will instead be rewarded by more high-profile individuals that wish to move large quantities of “untraceable currency quickly.”

This in-game money is not expected to be called bitcoin, but it will be a type of cryptocurrency.

Story Reportedly Finished

According to a purported source, the story for Rockstar’s GTA 6 is complete.

In February 2020, Rockstar Mag (a French fansiteChris )’s ‘Liberty93’ stated that the plot for Grand Theft Auto 6 was completed prior to the resignation of Rockstar’s main writer, Dan Houser, and that the next GTA entry will retain the “spirit” of a normal Rockstar game.

Although a completed plot may imply that GTA 6 will be released soon, Chris did note out that several adjustments were made to Red Dead Redemption 2’s story during production, despite it being ‘completed’ in 2012.

“They continued to make modifications in late 2017 and early 2018, and many minor elements were changed,” Chris stated.

Dan Houser has left Rockstar. Houser (who has been on an extended vacation period since spring 2019) will formally quit Rockstar Games on March 11, 2020, according to a statement released by Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive.

His brother Sam Houser is still president.

Houser, who has worked as a writer, producer, and voice actor at Rockstar, has helped the company grow into one of the industry’s largest developers.

It’s unclear whether this will have an influence on the development of GTA 6.

GTA 6 Could be the Last GTA Game

Tom Henderson’s conjecture is more educated than anything definite.

But, as we’ve included a lot of his predictions and leaks in this guide, we thought it was only fair to mention his most current hypothesis, which was recently published on Dualshockers: Grand Theft Auto 6 might be the final GTA title.

He admits that it would be a pity for such a massive franchise to die, but argues that with GTA Online’s massive popularity and a constantly expanding map, there may be no need for Rockstar Games to ever follow up GTA6.

“Rockstar appears to be making GTA 6 the most epic future-proof video game in history,” he adds, “with frequent updates that not only provide fans new material but keep the environment new and intriguing by changing.”
