CorrLinks allows family and friends to contact with loved ones who are jailed.
This technology, which was created through a collaboration with a correctional agency and Advanced Technologies Group (ATG), allows family and friends to subscribe to CorrLinks services.
What Is CorrLinks?
CorrLinks is the Bureau of Prisons’ official email system for federal convicts to interact with individuals on the outside.
CorrLinks requires inmates to pay to utilise.
However, if the inmate is within the Federal Bureau of Prisons, the service is free to those on the outside.
Other organisations may charge a fee. You may pay a nominal amount to upgrade to a premium account, but this is not required.
In this essay, I’ll walk you through the process of creating a CorrLinks account and using it to email federal jail prisoners for free.
Using Corrlinks
Many people wonder how they may keep in touch with their loved ones while doing time in federal prison.
There are three methods to keep linked to the outside world:
1. Use the United States Postal Service to send and receive mail.
2. Make incoming phone calls (No incoming calls allowed)
3. Get visitors.
4. Make use of Corrlinks’ email system.
This video demonstrates how to send emails from Corrlinks while incarcerated.
Email in federal prison differs from email in the general public.
Rather than sending emails directly, a person must use a repository.
To begin, a prisoner must fund his or her commissary account. The monies must then be sent from the commissary account to the email account. If a person has enough cash in their Corrlinks account, they can send email to allowed parties. People are generally easy to approve.
When a prisoner sends an electronic communication using Corrlinks, the individual should anticipate an electronic monitoring system to check that the email message does not breach any restrictions.
The email should arrive in the Corrlinks repository within two hours after being sent.
After then, the designated receiver can access Corrlinks.com. From there, the user can receive email messages sent by the inmate.

How to set up a CorrLinks account and use it to email federal prison inmates for free.
1. Receive an Invitation
You must first receive an email request from a federal jail prisoner before you may contact with them (which means you must first give them your email address).
You can open a CorrLinks account without first getting the request, but you won’t be allowed to email any convicts.
A request will be sent to your email inbox once an offender enters your email to the Corrlinks system (you might need to check your spam box).
CorrLinks will be the sender, and the subject will include the inmate’s name.
To advance to the next stage, click on the inmate’s name in the topic box.
2. The Inmate Request
The prisoner request email contains two critical pieces of information. The first is a link to CorrLinks’ website. The Inmate Identification Code is the second. The Inmate Identification Code will be useful later. At this time, you should click on the link to the CorrLinks website to create an account if you don’t already have one. You will then be sent to the Login/Registration page.
3. Registration
Select “Register.” This will bring you to the page where you can enter your information.
4. Sign Up/Email Address and Password Page
Copy and paste the Inmate Identification Code from Step 2 into the Identification Code box at the bottom of the page. Use the same email address that you used to get the request to email a federal inmate. Otherwise, their identifying code will be invalid. After checking the box, click “Next.” You will get a verification email in your inbox.
5. Enable Email Alerts
If asked, choose the “Enable Email Alert” check box. Then press the “Accept” button. This will notify you anytime a prisoner messages you through CorrLinks. Otherwise, unless you check CorrLinks on a regular basis, you may be unaware that you are getting messages.
6. Verification Email
The verification email will be sent from “Web@CorrLinks.com,” with the subject line “Sign Up Verification Link.” To proceed, click on the link.
Continue by Scrolling
7. Sign Up Verification Link
Select the verification link.
You will be sent to the Sign Up/Account Details page.
8. Sign Up/Account Details Page
Fill in all of the essential information before clicking “Next.”
You will be sent to the CorrLinks account page.
9. CorrLinks Account Page
Your account has been created. Now I’ll teach you how to email federal inmates whose correspondence you’ve authorised.
To access your mailbox, click the “Mailbox” button.
10. Mailbox
Now, choose “New Message.”
You’ll be sent to your message box, where you may create messages.
11. Message Box
Click in the red circle to receive a drop down list of convicts to whom you may compose messages.
Step 12: Write a Message
Choose the convicts you wish to email by checking the boxes to the left of their names. You can send messages to a single offender or to a group of convicts at the same time. Then press the “OK” button.
The rest is similar to sending an email. If you try to email an inmate, you may see a notification saying that your correspondence is “waiting permission.”
If this is the case, you must wait until the waiting time is ended before sending them a message. This normally takes no more than a day or two.
Is CorrLinks Like Using Email?
CorrLinks is not the same as utilising your Gmail account. Messages will be delivered to your account inbox rather than your email inbox. Your mails are also subject to various restrictions. Attachments and media are not permitted, and you are restricted to 13,000 characters. These attachments will be removed by prison personnel. It is also forbidden to forward messages to third parties.
Is This Internet Access for Inmates?
No, convicts do not have access to the internet through this service. Their usage of CorrLinks is restricted and monitored, and they are only permitted to send and receive emails.
Will My Messages Be Monitored?
Before any communications are transmitted, you may expect the jail officials to scrutinise any correspondence.
To use this service, you must first agree to be watched. This can cause any email to be delivered to be delayed.
Any correspondence can potentially be rejected by prison staff as they see appropriate. Keep in mind that any texts that are refused may result in an incident report for a prisoner. They might be reported for participating in an illegal conversation.
Restrictions to Using CorrLinks
Some convicts may be denied access to this service.
For example, if an inmate is detained for a computer-related offence, they will most likely be prohibited access to email.
Any disciplinary breach can also result in access being cancelled.
If an offender has previously done any conduct that endangers the public or the prison’s security, they are unlikely to be granted access to CorrLinks.
Alternative Methods to Contact a Federal Inmate
Here are several other ways to contact an offender.
Phone Calls
Typically, an offender must pay for a phone call.
The restrictions differ by institution, however there is normally a monthly time limit.
Every phone call is recorded.
Inmates can get correspondence from the outside world.
All mail will be searched for contraband and to ensure that it does not pose a security risk.
Publications
Inmates are able to subscribe to periodicals and get books.
No content will be permitted if it poses a security risk or promotes criminal behaviour.
What is CorrLinks Video Service?
CorrLinks now allows you to video chat with convicts in specified facilities using your home computer, iOS, or Android smartphone.
• Full-color video with crystal-clear audio conversation from your PC or iOS device.
• Video session timings are established by each institution, however they are normally accessible every day.
• Each video session is 25 minutes long (for FBOP detainees) and 20 minutes long (for USN-CHA convicts), beginning and ending at the top and bottom of each hour.
• CorrLinks users do not pay for video sessions; instead, they accept invites from jailed family members/friends.
• The system employs 640 x 480 video to reduce network traffic requirements.
