The Lyriq nails its styling assignment with an initial thunderclap of style: a shortened and elevated tail, a large laser-lit front end, vertical headlamps, and the posture of a cornerback. It is, without a doubt, a descendant of the ancient “Art & Science” school—one that appears to be a century ahead of its time. The dramatic swoops of textured aluminum and sweeping digital displays in the cabin indicate advancement on another vector. It’s been polished to a luxurious, technological sheen, severing practically all connections to Cadillac’s past.
The first Lyriq to enter the road is powered by a 102-kwh battery pack and a single motor; a dual-motor all-wheel-drive version is planned for late 2022. The single motor produces an estimated 340 horsepower and 325 pound-feet of torque.
The Lyriq is endowed with great straight-line performance that couples with a wonderful ride that doesn’t require sophisticated, high-energy adaptive dampers to buff the road to a nice, even sheen, with an estimated 312-mile range and normally good EV acceleration.
The Lyriq seats five people and has a large back seat that sits front of a large cargo compartment with 28.0 cubic feet of capacity.
The seats are covered in synthetic leather; real leather will not be available in the first model year.
The Lyriq features automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitors, and the Super Cruise driver-assist technology, which allows hands-free driving on more than 200,000 miles of split roads in the United States.
The 33-inch curved OLED panel displays gauges and entertainment with clarity, but had some difficulty remaining connected with our iPhones during our first drive. The Lyriq can be started, unlocked, locked, and pre-conditioned using Cadillac’s digital key on your smartphone, which includes a 19-speaker AKG sound system with headrest speakers.
Cadillac collaborated with more than a half-dozen charging station service providers to gain access to more than 60,000 Level 2 and DC fast-charging stations nationwide.
Fast charging @ 190 kw extends the range by 76 miles in 10 minutes. A Level 2 home charging option with 19.2-kw (100-amp) service increases charging speed by 52 miles per hour. At launch, 22-inch wheels are available for an additional $1,550, but anticipate those large rollers to reduce range.

The single-motor rear-wheel-drive Lyriq started at $59,990, including destination, but all of those vehicles, as well as every $64,990 all-wheel-drive variant, have been reserved until 2023.

Debut Edition
The Lyriq’s starting price of $59,990 is for the single-motor Debut Edition variant with limited options.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance
The Lyriq is rear-wheel drive as standard, with a 340-hp electric motor on the rear axle.
With this entry-level arrangement, acceleration is decent, and the Lyriq feels snappy, but it lacks the forceful feeling we get from competitive SUVs like the BMW iX and Model X.
Optional 500-hp dual-motor all-wheel drive engine adds a second motor to the front to drive those wheels.
We haven’t driven that model yet, but we expect it to be more interesting in terms of acceleration.
The rest of the Lyriq’s road manners will also disappoint enthusiast drivers.
While the Lyriq’s handling is solid and proficient, it doesn’t provide much enjoyment when pushed hard.
Its steering is nicely weighted but lacks tactility, and the brake pedal is also lacking.
Fortunately, Cadillac has designed an aggressive regenerative braking system that enables for one-pedal driving, which means that simply lifting off the accelerator pedal slows the vehicle quickly enough to avoid pressing the brake pedal in most day-to-day driving conditions.
The ride is acceptable on smooth pavement, but some may find the suspension to be excessively harsh on rougher roads.
We’ll update this post with results from our test track after we’ve had a chance to put the Lyriq through its paces.
What are the Lyriq’s power and range?
The first Lyriqs to hit the market are equipped with a 100-kW battery pack and a single electric motor driving the rear wheels. This combo produces 340 horsepower and has a range of 312 miles according to the EPA. That range estimate is comparable to the Tesla Model Y Long Range (330 miles) and BMW iX (324 miles), while it is greater than the Audi e-tron (222 miles) and Jaguar I-Pace (222 miles) (234 miles). We’ll have to put the Lyriq through our standardized Edmunds range test before we know how it performs in real-world driving.
A dual-motor Lyriq will also be available. This car will have all-wheel drive and a power output of roughly 500 horsepower.
How Does My Pre order become an order?
A pre-order brings you one step closer to owning a 2024 Cadillac LYRIQ when they go on sale in the spring of 2023.
When you place a LYRIQ pre-order, your chosen dealer is notified and will contact you to configure your LYRIQ purchase and determine final pricing.
When that process is done, your dealer will place a production order.
We anticipate opening orders for 2024 LYRIQ in late 2022.
Are There Cadillac LYRIQ Lease Deals?
At the moment, there is no published leasing agreement for the 2023 Cadillac LYRIQ.
Unfortunately, because of the lack of a federal tax credit, it is unclear that the LYRIQ will receive a lease cash incentive to assist lower its price.

How does the Lyriq drive?
First and foremost, please keep in mind that the following are our initial thoughts after driving the 340-horsepower Lyriq Debut Edition.
The acceleration is quick but controlled.
You get the impression of quick torque that has come to be associated with electric vehicles, but it is delivered slowly rather than in spurts.
The brakes are easy to manage comfortably, and a one-pedal drive setting is available, allowing the Lyriq to automatically slow down when you let go of the accelerator.
It’s a huge benefit for EV owners, who frequently regard one-pedal driving as an enticing feature and an essential part of the electric experience.
As an extra bonus, you may grasp the left steering wheel paddle to impart additional braking power — similar to a bicycle’s handbrake — if you choose to avoid using the foot braking pedal entirely.

The Lyriq is simple to drive, starting up fast and feeling notably agile at low speeds.

The steering is uncommunicative and indirect.
Cadillac may have set it this way to exude comfort or elegance, but it makes the Lyriq appear sluggish in reaction to your demands.
The SUV also moves its weight around far too frequently. Despite what Cadillac claims is a low center of gravity thanks to the underfloor battery pack, the Lyriq sways from side to side, especially when accelerating through curves. Finally, you will hear road noise and wind noise in the cabin, which is not uncommon for EVs without the white noise of an engine, though some do a better job of isolating the driver from such unpleasantness. How safe is the Cadillac Lyriq?
